Remembering Ed Carter on his birthday

April 3, 2014, is the 99th birthday of my old friend Ed Carter — J. Edwin Carter — author of Living is Forever and then an investor in Hampton Roads. Ed was a long-time friend of Bob Monroe, and whetted my interest in doing a Gateway even more than it was already. In 1995, Ed paid for me to do the Lifeline program with him because, he said, he thought we’d both get a lot out of it if we did it together. Typically generous of him. And, indeed, we did both get a lot out of it.

Here is a picture of a rather younger Frank DeMarco  with his friends Ed Carter and Richard Spees, taken by our dear friend Joyce Johnson-Jones during Lifeline, July 1995.

Ed moved on in December, 1996. Rich and I have remained friends for going on 20 years now.

A Place to Stand is available as an ebook

Bob Friedman tells me that my book about 10 prep sessions at The Monroe Institute is now up on Kindle. I haven’t entered the ebook world, so i don’t know how one downloads it, but he assures me that anyone who owns a Kindle already knows. It is part of his Rainbow Ridge Books line.

I’m very pleased to have this long-term project off my desk. Although published out of order, the chronological order of the sessions reported on and digested was this:

A Place to Stand (2000)

The Sphere and the Hologram (2001-02)

Chasing Smallwood (2005-06)

Afterlife Conversations with Hemingway (2006-2011)

The Cosmic Internet (2011)

Still to come (maybe) are a book of transcripts and commentary on ten sessions in 2004 in which Rita Warren participated, and one or two books from the material that came in such a spate in 2006 but has not yet been digested and sorted into something more usable.

I asked guidance, not so long ago, if it was really worthwhile to continue to publish work that wasn’t meeting a huge response (to put it mildly) and was asked which i would prefer — to die leaving materials that could never be assembled by anyone, or die leaving assembled manuscripts whether or not they were published.

Plus 19 years

This is the day, in 1995, that Bob Monroe transitioned back out of the physical, age nearly 80

I was in New York City that day, having gone up particularly to meet Colin Wilson, my long-time favorite author, which turned out to be a delight. The next morning I bought the New York Times, sure there would be an obit for Bob, but there wasn’t. (I realized later that they probably hadn’t even known about it so quickly.) 

No obit, for Bob Monroe! I thought of Emerson’s words at Thoreau’s funeral, to the effect that the country didn’t yet know how great a son it had lost. I thought, in a hundred years, there won’t be an educated person on the face of the planet who won’t have heard his name. But in 1995 it was still too early.

Portuguese Navy Investigating Underwater Pyramid

Sometimes sentences are misleading, but read this, from the report: “According to claims, the structure is said to be perfectly squared and oriented by the cardinal points. Current estimates obtained using GPS digital technology put the height at 60 meters with a base of 8000 square meters. The Portuguese Hydrographic Institute of the Navy currently has the job of analyzing the data to determine whether or not the structure is man-made.”

Now, the story if you read it carefully doesn’t quite say that the pyramid IS perfectly squared, etc. But I should think that anyone who even glanced at the underwater photo in this story could not have any doubt about “whether or not the structure is man-made.” Who else could have made it? Dolphins? Extraterrestrials?
