Kindred Souls

God bless the Internet! Like the roads of the Roman Empire, it serves purposes that never occurred to its designers.

My friend Nancy Ford sent me a group email she had received, passing on the Chief Joseph Newsletter. I hadn’t heard of it, so followed the link backwards to the “about” page. Reading John Cali’s description of his encounters with Chief Joseph reminded me of my own experiences. And Chief Joseph’s final words, in the piece I quote here, have been said to me by the guys upstairs, more than once, though not more than about three thousand times.

The newsletter gives me a nice feeling of kinship with Cali (with whom I have never corresponded) and serves as an example of how we can encourage each other. Cali wrote and published the piece. Another person picked it up and sent it around to his friends; Nancy passed it on to me, and here it is for you.

How It Started

On May 24, 1992, as the sun broke through the misty silvery stillness of the California mountains, a familiar figure appeared to me. He identified himself as Chief Joseph. He was familiar because he’d been lingering on the periphery of my awareness for six years. But I never knew who he was. Now I did.

In one of his many physical lifetimes, this spirit was incarnated as the legendary Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce Tribe in what is now the U.S. state of Oregon.

Chief Joseph lived from about 1840 until September 21, 1904. During the 1877 Nez Perce War and until his death, Joseph was one of the tribe’s prominent leaders. An eloquent speaker and statesman, he was a strong advocate of American Indian rights, the equality of all people, and deep reverence for our Mother Earth and all her inhabitants.

In May 1992, I was experiencing some pretty hefty challenges in my personal and spiritual life. (Or, to use Joseph’s definition of challenges, opportunities for remembering who I am.) He offered to help me. I said, “Sure, I can use all the help I can get!”

And so it began. Joseph and I continued like that, one-on-one, for several years. We dealt mostly with my personal issues. We also worked privately with a small circle of close friends. But we did nothing publicly.

Then, toward the end of 1995, Joseph asked if I’d consider channeling publicly for others, especially since it had been so helpful to me. I said, “No, I don’t think so.” But one thing led to another. And, ultimately, Joseph prevailed. So we started doing private sessions for others outside my small circle.

When I first started communicating with Joseph, I was a real novice at that sort of thing. And I was sometimes uneasy when I channeled him.

But as I became more comfortable in my own abilities and in the abilities of Spirit, my powers of communication (or channeling) became greater. The more I channeled Joseph, the more I discovered I was able to access the higher aspects of this entity I’d known as Chief Joseph. I was able to reach into what you might call the “Joseph soul group,” a group of spirits who are clearly a highly evolved and powerful family of teachers.

Today I see myself as a “point of focus,” for this evolved group we now call simply “Joseph” or “Chief Joseph.” The group certainly includes the wise being we know as the spirit of the historical Chief Joseph, and I consider him the “spokesman” for the group. But now the group also includes other spirit and angelic beings.

Occasionally during our channeling, especially in private readings, Joseph will use the “I” or “me.” I’ve come to realize that is when the single spirit of Chief Joseph is speaking. Most often, however, Joseph uses “we” or “us,” signifying it’s the group speaking, not just Chief Joseph.

In 1996 we started publishing Sentinels of the Sky Newsletter: Conversations With Chief Joseph and John Cali, now known as the Chief Joseph Newsletter.

I can’t say it was an easy journey in the beginning. But it was fun and fulfilling, and it still is. More importantly, though, this journey has brought many people (including me) closer to remembering who we really are, and why we are here. It’s helped us feel better about being human. And it’s helped us know we are spirit beings in human form, and to rejoice in that knowing.

A Curious Dream

I had a short, but strange and curious dream several nights ago. It was very vivid, and I knew it held an important message. As our dreams often do.

John Cali

In the dream Spirit gave me a gift, an unusual gift. It was a small multi-colored ball. Small enough to easily hold in the palm of your hand, or carry around in your pocket or purse. It had a pattern similar to the ball used in American soccer games. Or, for those of you in Europe, I believe you call those games “football.”

This is the curious part of the dream. If I made a mistake I could simply squeeze the ball and the mistake would be erased forever. My life would start over anew.

Pretty neat trick, don’t you think?

Of course we all make “mistakes.” But Chief Joseph has often said there are no mistakes. We’ve never done anything “wrong.”

Here’s Chief Joseph.

Chief Joseph

Humans have a bad habit of beating up on themselves whenever they do something “wrong.”

But — think about this, friends — what is “wrong,” what is “right,” what is “good,” what is “bad?”

You have a long litany of “sins” you either committed or barely managed to avoid committing.

When your higher selves decided to incarnate in your current physical bodies at this fascinating time of growth for your race and your planet, they knew exactly what they were doing. They did not intend for you (the human aspect of themselves) to see if you could get life “right.”

There is no right or wrong. There is no good or bad. There is nothing — nothing at all — except experience. Experience in consciousness.

Consciousness is what it’s all about. Period. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing else matters.

It’s all good!

That is how we see you from our perspective. That is how your higher selves see you. It’s all good. You are all good!

In your choice to incarnate at this amazing time of transformation, we applaud you. We love you. We admire your courage. We respect your willingness to be in the vanguard of this new era, the likes of which the universe has never seen.

When you get past your self-imposed limitations and perceptions of what you’re “supposed” to be, do, and have, you will see yourselves as we see you — as Gods in human form. Gods who have temporarily forgotten who they are. But Gods nonetheless.

Friends, John’s little soccer ball is a beautiful metaphor for the way you can live your human lives.

You are not shackled by your past — the past of this lifetime or any other lifetime. The past — or what you call the past — is an illusion. It’s part of your illusion of linear time.

But you can transcend that illusion when you remember who you are — God. With God every breath you take is a new beginning — literally a new life.

Every inhalation renews and revitalizes every aspect of your being, physical and spiritual. (This is often the basis of what you call spontaneous or instant healing.) Every exhalation releases all of your “past” — all of your “mistakes.” They simply cease to exist.

You are reborn with every breath. Rejoice in knowing that. You do not have a little soccer ball to renew yourselves. But you do have an even more powerful tool of renewal — your breath. Your breath is literally the breath of life, the breath of renewal.

Breathe out the old. Breathe in the new. Rejoice. All is well.

  1. John Cali’s experience with developing a communication channel with Chief Joseph (valuable to him personally and for many others) reminds me of the experience of an anonymous friend of mine who has had a similar experience with a similar advanced being (AB in my lexicon) who called himself Jeshua. Over about 3 years my friend has transcribed and shared his dialogue (and a dialogue it really is) with a private circle. These exchanges reveal an AB with plenty of human experience, but with access to a more detached and broader perspective of life on Earth. It is the most “down-to-Earth, unearthly source” of commentary on our individual human journeys I have encountered in decades of channeled material. If you feel these communications might be useful for you (they cannot be downloaded or distributed), please let me know.

  2. I would be interested in this source and in those that others know and would care to mention. My approach is to take all of it as input — not infallible, not necessarily always profound, but always potentially able to reach something in us that resonates and leads us to new territory.
