5:30 AM. Ready.

Now suppose that you consider each trait you can identify within your person-group to be a person-group in itself. Where does this place you?

I’ve been trying to imagine. So — pray continue.

In your work with “robots” or in any healing work involving mobilizing the unconscious mind of the person you’re working with, you have been led to act “as if” the shoulder, say, or the knee, or the nervous system, or whatever, were a separate consciousness of limited intelligence acting for the good of the whole as it understood the good (which misunderstanding often causes the trouble, or anyway expresses it). You probably don’t quite remember that this approach originally “came to you” as an innate knowing. In any case you have developed a system out of your experience at contacting parts of your bodies and communicating with them.

6:30 AM. Life between entries is becoming more or less a blank, accomplishing most necessary things — not all — and waiting for the next session. Very aware of not working.

Okay, proceed. Tempted to say, “chastise away,” but don’t want to interrupt the flow of such good material.

The next analogy to consider is at a lower level. Just as it is true that a person-group may be considered one thread of a larger organism, [which is] a person-group of its own, so it is true that each thread — each trait — of your own may be considered a person-group of its own at a lower level. And of course all of this will need to be spelled out — or hinted at, really, as we must proceed mostly by analogy. It remains true that we are attempting to convey information that cannot be expressed directly in words.

6:30 AM. Open for business — if somewhat later than usual. Our spiritual heredity?

The temptation here will be to retreat into cliché or evasive generality, which we suggest is what Rita Warren experienced in questioning people in the black box. But they had only a short time to concentrate; it is natural.

7 AM. I had to go back to Saturday’s material to remember where we were. For good and sufficient reasons, I have felt unable to do any of the work I had started doing in making notes and thereby making lists.

And in the absence of questions, and in the absence of a continuation of our line of explanation, you find yourself dependent upon us for continuity. If we were blank this morning, if you couldn’t hear our prompting, where would you be? We mean this not as any form of chastisement but as observation on the process — for you, for others. One effect is to loosen your connection to the material at the moment. Another is to tempt you to discouragement. A third, the most potentially disruptive, is to tempt you to put off working until another day.

4:30 AM. Must be getting close to entering Virgo. Nights are noticeably longer.

Yesterday we did two shamanic journeys — Nancy, Dave, Linda and I. in the first, my message seemed to be, take the experience itself of flying itself — enjoy the ride. In the second, it was a long portrayal of downstairs life — pointless, empty, boring, solitary. I didn’t think to put the two together in that way until now.

We three took a walk to the lake, and a paddle on the lake, between the time Linda and Dave came in from RMR and the time Nancy arrived. My legs can feel it this morning, though. Enjoyable but I’m so far out of shape. I concede, I’d feel better if I did it regularly.

6:15 AM. A little hard to get moving today.

Remember to balance. You observed the exhaustion in your son-in-law’s eyes from work and child and too little sleep. Your life is easier than his — but you are older, too. So, be wary of disregarding balance, in your anxiety to press ahead. No, not anxiety, exactly, but anyway your continued enthusiasm and avid interest and deep satisfaction. Any of these might tempt a person into imbalance; together they are a powerful lure.

It isn’t much different from Hemingway in the middle of writing a book, I imagine.

No, quite wrong. He tried to balance every day. You do that mentally but not physically.

All right, I’m trying to be careful. And I just got that (of course) this is as much for the benefit of those who can overhear us as for myself.

12:30 AM. Unable to sleep longer, might as well use the time.

You were going to replace “threads and rings” with a more animated concept, one not so static or mechanical. Up to the task at the moment?

We shall see, won’t we? For of course it depends more on your calmness and absence of mental chatter and emotional anxiety than on any variables on our side.
