Colin Wilson (1931-2013)

Today I (and others, of course) received from Colin Wilson’s friend and sometime publisher Colin Stanley, Managing Editor of the English publisher Paupers’ Press, an email that said, in part:

“Dear All
“It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Colin died last night at 11.45pm; in hospital, peacefully with Sally and Joy at his side.”

Colin Wilson’s work meant a tremendous lot to me. My life would have been far different if i had not been nudged to read one of his books at a certain moment. I wrote a little about it in Muddy Tracks (for which Colin kindly wrote an introduction. I’ll post it here later.

  1. Hail, and fare well, Colin Wilson. I read one of his books early on (perhaps as early as late 60s, certainly by early 70s… (pre-Seth)and recall that at the time it seemed ‘pivotal’, tho I went on to find Jane Roberts/Seth in 74 and all bets were off placed elsewhere for that ‘pivotal’ designation, tho I have always maintained fond niches of acknowledgement and a fine retroactively
relish-y appreciation for C. Wilson, Alan Watts, Castaneda, Jung and Co., Monroe… a host, really…. so many now Heavenly!!!… Bon Voyage and thanks very much, Colin!

    1. …this is the one i’m remembering… from 1973, i see,,,so, Seth came right on Colin’s heels for me…

  2. Just saw your other post , which clicked me into recalling that i also read Mind Parasites, earlier.. Guess I will have to reread! Tho I am not feeling at all friendly to Jeff Bezos plan to use drones for Amazon deliveries by 2015 (!), I am grateful still that I will be able to ‘instantly’ order some of COlin’s books for a bit of review. –SO now- what have YOU gotten ME into??! lol

  3. His influence is incalculable – I would not have read any of the Modernists (and goodness knows what else) without his accessible, conversational writing style. A great and fascinating body of work. And a nice guy too. I raise a glass to CW.
