Questions from listeners

The Coast to Coast AM radio interview with George Noory led  a couple of people a send questions that I will try to answer here.

1. Coincidence v. free choice

“If you don’t believe in coincidences (George chimed in with fate here). and you DO believe we are here to ‘choose, choose, choose’ how can I extract the contradiction you created by saying these things?”

I don’t see it as a contradiction, though I can see how it can look as though it were one. Try thinking of it this way: Life presents itself to us, moment by moment, as one thing. There are no absolute separations in life; no “this part of life” versus “that part of life.” Nothing in your life or mine is disconnected from anything else, although the connections may be so tenuous or so subtle as to be invisible. I know this isn’t the common way of seeing things, but how sensible is it to assume that anything in life is not connected to everything else?

If there were no other link, the fact that they are all in your life would be enough to establish yourself as common denominator.

Now, I have a friend who firmly believes in predestination and predetermination. That is, he says that since there are no coincidences,  there can be no freedom, since everything that happens is an effect of previous causes.

To that, I make two answers.

First (an emotional argument, not a logical one) does it feel that way to you? Do you feel like a puppet, going through the motions? When you are in love, when you are angry, when you are undecided, when you are caught in a moment of appreciation of beauty or of absorption in an intricate set of thoughts – does it feel to you that you are a puppet, going through the motions?

Second, a logical argument, namely that no chain of logical conclusions is stronger than its weakest unexamined premise. (Indeed, this is the danger of trying to live exclusively by logic, as if your feelings were diversions rather than a supplemental guidance system.) In this case, I think the unexamined and faulty premise is that there is only one reality. Rather, I have been led by my buddies Upstairs to believe that there is an endless number of realities, one for each decision made by each person every time a decision-point was reached. The reality we are in seems to us to be the only “real” reality, the others seeming to be merely  theoretical. But we may move from one to another, in which case the one we move to appears real and the remembered others appear only theoretical. (I have been told that Seth said more or less the same thing, though I haven’t checked.) You can see, perhaps, how this could reconcile the seemingly irreconcilable factors of (a) no coincidences, yet (b) free choice.

2. Guidance

Another listener said he talks to his guys upstairs everyday, and then asks two questions: how to become more aware of when he is receiving guidance, and how to become more “clairaudient.”

He asked these as one question, but to me they are very different things. The short answer to the second part is, “I don’t know.” A slightly longer answer is, “Maybe you can learn to become clairaudient, maybe you can’t, but why do you want to dictate how guidance comes to you?”

Guidance – any psychic input – may come in four forms, so they say. Seeing visions, Hearing words, Feelings, or Knowing. The desire to experience any of the first three – especially seeing visions or hearing words — is understandable. It would provide you with something certainly out of the ordinary. It would feel special, and might encourage you to feel special. But any of these provide problems (beyond the temptation to ego-gratification) because a vision, or a set of words, or even (to lesser degree) strong feelings need to be interpreted. Anything that needs to be interpreted increases the possibility that it will be mis-interpreted.  Of the four kinds of input, “knowing” is at once the least tangible and the most direct. That’s the one I would advise you to cultivate.

And that brings us to the first part of the question: How do you become more aware of receiving guidance?

The simples answer is, how do you become more aware of anything in your life? Pay attention!

Seriously, it’s that simple. “Simple” doesn’t always mean “easy,” but nonetheless, it’s simple. Intend to pay attention to the pattern of your life, and you’ll see.

  1. I enjoyed your answers and agree. I like the “I don’t know” response. Knowing without evidence is the best way to receive information from spirit. Essentially it’s only being self aware, or aware of non-self. It’s part of our nature to believe what we see in print/life, but we rarely pay attention. We can shift to the frequency of, ‘this is simple’, but the challenge is to dismantle the old frequency. The fact that someone before us communicated to spirit in any way, hinders communicating in a new way. I think once a critical mass of belief and observation is achieved, we’ll tumble into a new frequency.

      Product Description
Based on years of first-hand experience of altered-state communication with non-physical minds, the author proposes to answer certain questions about life. Among them:
How can dead people talk with us, and talk to each other – regardless when they lived – and talk about our time, which was their future?
How can they be aware of us, and of each other, and of everything we know?
Why should they be interested in talking to us?

The book’s first chapter, “A Model of Our Minds on the Other Side,” provides a way to see the interaction of lives in the three-dimensional physical world and the greater life that exists on the non-physical side of things.

“The Individual as Convenient Fiction,” chapter two, reinterprets our lives and essence, showing that what we think we know about ourselves is true only partially, and only from a particular point of view.

Chapter three, “The Physical and the Non-Physical,” sets out, as plainly as possible, the differences and interactions between the two sides of the metaphorical veil. This chapter, more than any other, attempts to show how and why our lives in the physical world are equally important to those on the other side.

Chapters Four and Five, “Living Connected” and “Shaping Your Life,” move from description of what is to suggestions about what you can do to live a life that is richer, more satisfying, more meaningful.

      From the Author
When I was young, I’d think of how we spend our lives learning things, accumulating skills and experiences, constructing inner worlds, and I’d think, “all gone, the moment we die.” I was all but paralyzed by the pointlessness of it all.
Some people don’t seem to notice. Others, having abandoned hope of physical immortality, work to “leave the world a better place,” or seek to leave an immortal name. Still others hope for eternal life in paradise. But none of these ways of experiencing life seemed to me to connect with how we actually live. The afterlife in scriptures remained a vague idea, and life without an afterlife made even less sense. But if neither the believers nor the materialists provide us with a credible picture of the meaning and nature of life, where could we find one?

Ideally, we would go right to the source, communicating directly with the other side of life, the non-physical side. Interestingly, some people insisted that this is possible. So the question became, is it possible? And if possible, is it safe?

These questions aren’t new. They have been asked and answered for as long as people have been aware that material life is only half the picture. The answers have come in different forms, shaped to the needs of different peoples, different civilizations. But old words go dead on new generations, and so old truths have to be rediscovered and restated to be heard.

In communicating with certain minds in the non-physical world, I have gotten information that amounts to an intellectually respectable model of our lives in the physical and non-physical world. This book is my attempt to convey it.
